The Steam version is currently local multiplayer only, if you're by yourself you'll just be beating up a player 2 shaped punching bag. There are a couple of smaller things too in the Steam version like music being missing (Off by default, enable in options menu) and dodgy sound effects with too much echo, which combine to make it quite unsatisfying to listen to.Personally I have purchased Gang Beasts because I love the 0.3 alpha and am glad to support development, but be warned about buying this so early if you are interested in it for entertainment purposes. Jumping and turning both feel very odd in the Steam version currently which can be frustrating ( EDIT: Hotfix patch just greatly improved jumping, turning is still quite sluggish), something I never experienced in the free alpha.Single player content has also been removed entirely while it is being developed further, so the Street and Tutorial levels are gone. From my understanding this is because they're reworking the physics from the ground up and haven't quite gotten to where 0.3 was yet. This will be added in future but this is the biggest weakness so far compared to the 0.3 Alpha with full control mapping. The physics and momentum in the Steam release feel sluggish and considerably less responsive than in the free Alpha version. There is no config menu and no 'controls' section in the options menu. However it is still the inferior version for the following reasons:You cannot rebind or even view the controls anywhere in the game. The bots in that level were prototypes that couldn't fight/jump worth a damn an there was literally no pathfinding at all. Free alpha is tons of fun and found here.WHOA WHOA WHOA man, why are you talking about no music? just go into the options menu and turn music on.As for the missing singleplayer shit, they're very obviously planning on refining the AI an creating a level worth playing, compared to the dogshit that was the 0.0.3 Streets level. Momentum is more sluggish. I think it's going to be an amazing game when it hits full release.TL DR: Can't rebind or see controls anywhere. The graphics are nicer and some areas of physics like falling do seem improved. ![]() ![]() The Streets level was like a rough cut of a movie: ugly & functional as a proof of concept, but not fit for public consumption. Then again, I only ever played the pre-alpha as a multiplayer party game. Anybody getting into GB in the Steam alpha would likely be put off by the SP prototype from the pre-alpha, given its simplicity and clunkiness. & the single player stuff, I imagine they'd kept it out of this build because they want to present a SP experience that would be on par with the final iteration. As for the "sluggishness" of the movement, I don't see it: control seems /much/ tighter than in the pre-alpha. But I'll admit that the control schema could be a little more transparent.
